Former Home Minister Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh Injured in Stone Attack on Car
Nagpur: Former Home Minister Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh sustained serious injuries after stones were hurled at his car in Nagpur district on Tuesday evening. The shocking incident occurred near Belphata on Katol Jalalkheda Road while the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader was returning from a campaign meeting in Narkhed village.
The attack left Deshmukh, seated in the front passenger seat, with a head injury. Disturbing visuals from the scene showed blood dripping from his head and staining his white kurta. He was rushed to Alexis Hospital in Nagpur for treatment.
The vehicle’s windshield was shattered, and glass fragments were strewn across the interior. Photos and videos circulating online reveal the extent of the damage to the car, adding to the gravity of the attack.
Police Launch Investigation
Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to identify the attackers. “Efforts are underway to trace the individuals responsible for this act,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a large group of Deshmukh’s supporters gathered outside the Katol police station, demanding swift action and justice.
Political Leaders Condemn the Attack
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat strongly criticizing the law and order situation in the state.
“It is alarming that a former home minister Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh was attacked in Nagpur district. This raises serious concerns about the safety and security during elections. The perpetrators must be arrested immediately,” Thorat posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He also called for the Election Commission’s intervention to ensure free and fair elections in the state.

Tensions Rise Ahead of Elections
The attack occurred on the last day of campaigning for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for November 20. Deshmukh’s son, Salil Deshmukh, is contesting the Katol Assembly constituency on the NCP (Sharad Pawar) ticket, facing BJP candidate Charansingh Thakur.
The incident has added to the tensions in the already heated election campaign. As the state awaits the polls and subsequent vote counting on November 23, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of political leaders and maintaining law and order.
