Tragic Incident at Walmart Bakery: Employee Found Dead Walk-In Oven
Gursimran Kaur, 19, was found dead inside a walk-in oven in the bakery department of a Halifax, Canada, store on October 19. Her mother identified the body since she hadn’t seen her for more than an hour and worried about it.
Halifax Regional Police responded to a call at approximately 9:30 PM and went to the Walmart at 6990 Mumford Rd. On arrival, they found Kaur dead in the large walk-in oven. Both the mother and daughter had been employed at Walmart for two years.
Her mother was desperately trying to find Kaur as she failed to respond to calls-an unusual behavior. A local fundraiser further highlighted the sad state of affairs, saying, “Imagine the horror that her mother experienced who herself opened the oven.”

As of Tuesday, neither the cause nor the manner of death of Kaur has been established and an investigation is still underway.
Kaur and her mother are from India where her father and brother currently live. Maritime Sikh Society is assisting the family in their transition to Canada through these hard times. A community fundraiser for the family has managed to raise over $75,000 CAD.
In response, Walmart reports the store will stay closed indefinitely. Also, the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration has issued a stop-work order concerning the bakery and the related equipment.
