Halloween ranks among the most eagerly awaited events of the year. Its origins date back to an ancient Celtic festival, known as the Samhain, but it gradually turned into this bright and colorful festival of masked merriment, accompanied by tricks and treats-a sometimes joyful mishmash of celebration. It was an excuse for adults and children alike to come together and celebrate. Let’s know more about this magic holiday!
When is Halloween Falling in 2024?
Halloween this year falls on Thursday, October 31. It is the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. Interestingly, India, too, is celebrating its much-loved festival Diwali on the same day-a very festive day.
When is Halloween Celebrated?
Halloween’s celebration varies by different regions with a host of spookish and spirited traditions. This would include the following:
- Costume Parties: The Halloween celebrations will always be incomplete without the costume parties. Participants indulge in dressing up in a wide array of costumes, ranging from frightening to funny, which is chosen after certain themes of the party are taken into consideration.
- Trick-or-Treating: It remains one of the favorite traditions in Western cultures wherein children put on funny costumes and go from door to door in their neighborhoods asking for candies with cheer by shouting the cheerful phrase, “trick or treat!”
- Haunted Houses: Most communities do stage haunted attractions offering decorations and themes which are designed as a thrill and for entertainment purposes.
- Pumpkin Carving for Decoration: Although carving a pumpkin is probably the biggest Halloween activity, it is also interesting to note that every family comes up with their designs unique to that house, along with cobwebs, skeletons, and ghostly figures in yards.
- Spooky Movies: Watching horror movies or even family-friendly Halloween movies is some other acceptable way of celebrating the spooky season and having some scary movie fun.
- Halloween Themed Food: A lot of people enjoy making and devouring such themed cookies and candies, which will have pumpkin flavors, candy corn, and so forth.
