The residents of Gokuldham Society, the fictional setting of the beloved TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), recently welcomed a special guest from Hollywood—Indian-origin actor Kal Penn. Known for his roles in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and House, Penn visited the set of the long-running sitcom, which is produced by Asit Kumar Modi. During his visit to the show’s set at Filmcity, Goregaon, Penn met with the cast, including Dilip Joshi (Jethalal), Sunayana Fozdar (Anjali Mehta), Munmun Dutta (Babita), Shyam Pathak (Popatlal), and other familiar faces from the show.
Kal Penn shared his experience with fans on Instagram, posting pictures from his visit to Gokuldham Society and expressing his gratitude to Asit Kumar Modi and the TMKOC team. Who is Kal Penn?
Kal Penn, born in New Jersey and later based in Los Angeles, gained fame for his role in the 2004 comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, alongside John Cho. The film’s success led to two sequels, and Penn went on to star in projects like The Namesake (2006) and the TV series House. After taking a break from acting, Penn worked in the administration of President Barack Obama, focusing on connecting with Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. It was during his time in Washington, D.C., that he met his fiancée.

TMKOC is one of India’s longest-running television sitcoms, known for its humorous take on everyday situations and relatable stories. Set in Gokuldham Co-operative Housing Society in Goregaon, Mumbai, the show revolves around the diverse residents of the society, often referred to as “Mini India” or the “8th wonder” due to its blend of different cultures and backgrounds.
