Shah Rukh Khan declares he has quit smoking on his birthday: ‘Mujhe laga tha ki I will not feel so breathless’
In fact, Shah Rukh Khan has promised several times that he would give up cigarettes but has so far been unsuccessful in that endeavor. Recently, though, during his birthday bash in Mumbai, he proudly claimed that he had finally given up cigarettes. This news, widely circulated in the press, was cheered by the fans, who felt proud to see their super-star finally leading a healthier life.
In a viral video from the event, the 59-year-old actor said, “The good news is that I’m not smoking anymore, guys.” Speaking about the decision of quitting, Shah Rukh said his hope was to experience lesser breathlessness but confessed he is adjusting as of now. “Mujhe laga tha ki I will not feel so breathless, but abhi bhi feel kar raha hu” (I thought I wouldn’t feel breathless after quitting smoking, but I still do), he confessed, while remaining optimistic that, “Inshallah, woh bhi theek ho jayega” (By God’s grace, that will also be fine).

In an interview with India Today in 2017, Shah Rukh shared how he was on his way to stop drinking and smoking so he could spend quality time with AbRam. He mentioned this at the India Today Conclave when he said, “Having a little child at the age of 50 is such a beautiful thing. It makes me feel alive, and one begins to look at innocence and love with a fresh pair of eyes.”. I do worry whether I can be as present for him as I was for my older kids, which encourages me to smoke less, drink less, and exercise more. I’m planning to give up everything and strive to be healthier and happier.
Many in Bollywood have made comments over the years regarding Shah Rukh’s smoking. Speaking with Siddharth Kannan, Pradeep Rawat recalled seeing Shah Rukh smoke several cigarettes at once, terming him a “true chain smoker.” Still, he did acknowledge the actor’s single-minded dedication to his craft.
From the professional end, he will be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s film King next, where he will also be accompanied by his daughter Suhana Khan in a key role.
