Last Resort for Confirmed Tickets
You can make the IRCTC website book confirmed tickets for you. As in, for instance, you want to go to Bihar from Ajmer on 29 October. When you check and see there are no confirmed tickets left, you may take another train from Ajmer to Delhi and from Delhi to Bihar. Similarly, from Ajmer you may have tickets to any other place that has confirmed tickets available; from there you take another ticket for Bihar.
Sometimes, if a confirmed ticket is not possible from Chittorgarh to Ranchi, get the extended route. But if you can get the confirmed ticket from Chittorgarh to Kolkata, take that ticket because you can get down at Ranchi, your destination. You might even get a confirmed ticket this way.
